In the Summer of 2024, a group of 60 pickleball enthusiasts gathered at 76 East Lake Fork Road to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Valley County Pickleball Courts, a dream turned reality for eight Valley County Pickleball Club volunteers who came together in 2020 to take on the challenge to expand pickleball in Valley County.

Over the next four years, a dedicated board, members, community businesses and generous picklers donated over $300,000 for the project, estimated to cost $600,000. In 2022, the County conducted a public survey for COVID-19 funds. Respondents overwhelmingly advocated for recreation facilities that included pickleball courts, bike paths and sports fields. The courts project also aligned with Valley County’s Recreation Advisory Council goals to provide access for recreationalists, meet citizen and visitor needs, build new recreational facilities and fund facilities through cost sharing. As a result, the County partnered with the Valley County Pickleball Club to fund the additional monies needed to build a pickleball complex.

The pickleball facility includes nine pickleball courts as well as a parking lot, storage shed and portable toilet facility. The Valley County Pickleball Club will operate the facility, which is free to the public. However, donations are requested to support operations ($2 per day for VCPC members and $5 for non-members). Parking fees are $5 per day or $20 per season and parking passes can be purchased at the courts.

The courts are open daily from sunrise to sunset from May through October (weather permitting). The Club offers memberships at $30 per year to cover court maintenance, free introduction to pickleball lessons, tournaments and other events. Membership includes benefits such as discounts on round robins, clinics, lessons, and access to scheduling and communications with other pickleball members. The Valley County Pickleball Club is a 501c5 nonprofit organization and was founded in 2011 with seven members, and today has grown to over 240 members.
